Hempstead, New York

Hempstead is a village in the Town of Hempstead, NY. It was incorporated in 1853. Hempstead was the commercial and cultural heart of present day Nassau County for almost two hundred years, and is still a vital transportation hub. The advent of shopping malls in the 1960s, combined with the ills of white flight, however, have left scars on the village that have yet to heal.
